This is the political scene, a weekly conversation with New Yorker writers and editors

The New Yorker. NSA, in the intelligence community in general, is focused on getting

intelligence wherever it can by any means possible,

that it believes on the grounds of sort of a self-certification

that they serve the national interest.

That was Edward Snowden last June in a video interview with the journalist Glenn Greenwald

after Snowden began revealing the secrets of the NSA.

Now the Obama administration is facing a diplomatic crisis. The latest

revelations are that the NSA monitored Angela Merkel's cell phone and collected communications

data on millions of Europeans. Glenn Greenwald has promised there will be more revelations to come.
