Hello from Washington. I'm Chuck Todd, cast. My guest today is Steve Balmer. He's the

former CEO of Microsoft. It's a job he held from 2000 to 2014.

After he stepped down, he started a second chapter. He purchased the Los Angeles Clippers.

You will see him, probably a lot during the NBA playoffs. We'll see how long you'll see him in the stands

He's also gotten involved in philanthropy, but he's gonna be visited with me

For a project he started in 2016 called USA Facts. It's a nonprofit that collects government data and tries to make it more consumable as a way to track everything from how children's sports participation works to retirement

savings and everything in between.

It's a fascinating treasure trove of research.

I like to learn out with it, but it really is, you know, his

North Star in this is trying to figure out, you know, can we use data to

understand whether we're getting the outcomes that we wanted to get in the first place.

It is an enormous task and he's now, and is literally spent a decade doing this and he hasn't given up yet and with that alone I appreciate

but before I get into my conversation with Steve this is my first time recording a

podcast since the death of O.J. Simpson. And I was trying to

explain the importance and significance of O.J. is a cultural event in this

country to my son who's 17.

It's one thing to explain football star,

murders wife, gets on trial, gets off all this stuff.

Okay, the basics obviously are easy to understand, easy to read about all of that.

But to try to explain how this changed us and certainly changed media consumption,

changed the way journalism, or at least mainstream changed media,

television journalism, or at least mainstream media,
