Summary

(Recorded September 2021) Filmmaker Sterlin Harjo co-created the smash comedy hit Reservation Dogs for FX about four Indigenous teenagers growing up on a reservation in Oklahoma. Sterlin tells Mike about the time he accidentally taped over someone's wedding video while applying to the Sundance Film Lab. 0:04.0	it's a very subtle thing, but I knew,
0:06.4	you know, just through stories and being told history,
0:09.6	like, oh, you're here because you exist in Oklahoma
0:14.6	because the US government made your people walk
0:18.0	from Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Florida
0:21.7	to Oklahoma and a lot of you died.
0:24.7	And it's like, you know, that's ever present, you know,
0:28.0	I think like an indigenous storytelling, like,
0:30.1	we faced a lot of that struggle through humor.
0:32.5	And so for me, my favorite humor is the humor
0:35.7	that butts up against tragedy.
