0:00.4	When Claudia Brenner and Rebecca White set out on a camping trip in May of 1988,
0:06.4	they were looking for peace, serenity, and maybe a little bit of privacy for their blossoming romance.
0:12.7	But what they got instead was a nightmare. This is Monsters.

1:02.5	Rebecca wasn't looking for anything either because she was in a committed relationship with
1:07.4	her long-term male partner. For Rebecca and Claudia, those early days were purely platonic.
1:13.6	While they enjoyed seeing each other around campus, it didn't happen often and it was nearly
1:18.9	always in the company of their wider group of friends. It wasn't that Claudia didn't find Rebecca
1:24.8	attractive. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Rebecca's mother was Puerto Rican and her father
1:30.4	was Iranian. The mix of ethnicities gave her dark skin, dark eyes, and long dark hair, all of which
1:36.9	were endearing features to Claudia. But while Claudia had grown up knowing that she was gay, Rebecca
1:42.9	was very clearly a straight woman and so for two years nothing happened between them. They were
1:48.3	merely acquaintances who knew each other through mutual friends. A couple of years after that first
1:54.4	meeting, Claudia heard through those same friends that Rebecca had separated from her partner.
1:59.9	That seemed to be a turning point for them both because over the next few months, they bumped into
2:04.6	each other more often. Then Claudia began to realize that whenever they were in a room together,
2:10.2	she felt a kind of pole towards Rebecca. But no matter how attracted Claudia felt, she knew she
2:15.8	would never make a move. That was for two reasons. First, Rebecca was straight and second,
2:21.6	even if she did happen to be bisexual or gay, Claudia didn't want to get tangled up in
