Welcome to the treatment. I'm Elvis Mitchell from my home, again. What to say about my guest?

Well, I'd certainly have called him an actor's actor, but I think it's best to say,

or safest to say, rather, that he's probably the only person who's played the same

role in an animated short and in a feature film.

Of course, that's Milton O'Adams on Saturday Night Live, and my guest is Stephen

Rout, whose newest turn, most recent turn for us to see,

is he's playing the district attorney Maynard Barnes and the HBO reboot of Perry Mason.

Steven, so good to talk to you. Thanks so much for having me. Appreciate it.

I clearly said this to you before, but I always think of you as an actor in terms of the way you

find a way to portray confidence in characters. I think probably any of that confidence would

come from my dad, you know, who was kind of a self-made electrical engineer who ended up doing

steam power plants throughout most of his life when

when I was a kid. So I was kind of like an army brat. We would move every year and a half,

two years. So he had to have the confidence to be the boss in all these different places. So

hopefully a little bit of it rubbed off on me.

It's funny, though, because as you're saying that, I think about how often these characters

are really invest jargon in.

And I even say that Maynor Barnes is one of those guys.

I can think of his scene, you're seeing with John Lithgow, as you basically sort of extort him out of the being part of this case.

But, but so many of these characters, and again, I'll say Buck Strickland or, or so many people you play,

even Milton, there is this embrace of jargon that these characters often sort of fall to.
