Summary

This week, Tommy is joined by longtime friends and collaborators James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti for a conversation about friendship, fatherhood, and building careers that have evolved far beyond their early fame. The two reflect on their journeys from One Tree Hill and reality television into creating and producing projects of their own, discussing the hustle it took to get their latest series made and why this new chapter feels so personal. James opens up about the lasting impact of Nathan Scott’s journey and the emotional experience of wrapping One Tree Hill, while Stephen talks about transitioning from reality TV into scripted acting and the fan support that shaped his path. They also share behind-the-scenes stories about developing their new show, finding its indie-style tone, and balancing humor, improvisation, and authenticity while drawing from experiences surprisingly close to home. Plus, the pair discuss navigating the entertainment industry as business partners, Stephen’s recent fan-favorite run on The Traitors, and what audiences can expect from season two of their series.

0:10.8

It is a party on the show today because I have not one but two pretty cool dudes in this studio.

0:16.2

You know and love James Lafferty from his leading role as Nathan Scott on One Tree Hill.

0:21.3

His buddy, Stephen Coletti, became a household name through Laguna Beach before he made the

0:25.6

transition to the script of world on One Tree Hill alongside James. And now both of these guys

0:30.8

have reunited as creators and stars of the series, Everyone is doing great, which is on Netflix.

0:54.6

Season 2 is out right now. And I'm going to go on record and say the show is one of the freshest things I've seen in comedy in a while. The guys just crush it. So today we're diving into some nostalgia. And yes, we're celebrating their early One True Hill days. There's even some fun conversation around traders and my boy James,

0:59.1

he's got some opinions. But what's really cool is we're also celebrating their new show,

1:05.9

their brotherhood and where they are in their lives in this moment of time. So let's see if today we can get James and Stephen to say something that they have never said before.

1:47.7

Stephen and James, how you doing today? Doing well, thank you. I'm happy to have you. Bright and Early in New York City. You've had a bit of a whirlwind week, right? Yeah, it's exciting, though. Anything for the show to celebrate getting on Netflix. So we're happy to be here, bright and early. Yeah, we have a lot to celebrate today. I'm super pumped for you guys with season two of the show. We're gonna dive into that. But man, I mean, the both of you, there's so much to talk about. So I guess to begin, you know, you've been friends a long time, right? Since you're one true hill days, how has your friendship changed and evolved from that point to now. Much more productive, huh? Yeah, definitely. Get ourselves into it. It was like instead of figuring out, you know, which bar we're going to go watch a game at back in, you know, 2009. It's a little bit more business oriented, which is good, right? Yeah, I feel like now we have to, whereas it used to be like we have to, we've got to find something

2:00.9

productive to do. Now it's like, dude, we've got to find time to like actually have a personal

2:04.0

conversation. Yeah. How are you, man? Yeah. And we, you know, back in the day, it was like, it was also, you know, we'd almost like commiserate over like, you know, would it be cool if we could do like a comedy, you know, it was like what kind of auditions we're getting and stuff that were working on.

2:16.4

And it was like, man, wouldn't be good to, you know, work on a show like this.

2:20.2

And back then we just talk about it. Thankfully, these days, it's like, let's go do it, you know? Yeah. I have no reason not to do. Well, it's not easy to do. I mean, and it's not always easy to go into business with someone that you're really close to, right? Yeah. I mean, yeah, and I think that's something that we were hyper aware of

2:34.3

from the beginning. And I mean, that's, you know, I think we sort of broke a lot of rules or not, not a lot of rules. That makes us sound like I think we're renegades or something. But I think I, we sort of did a lot of things they say not to do, you know, like sort of, you know, putting your own money into your projects and sort of putting a lot of your eggs into one basket,

2:54.0

you know, like sort of, you know, putting your own money into your projects and sort of putting

2:52.3

a lot of your eggs into one basket, you know, focusing our attention on one thing for a very

2:56.0

long time and getting into business with your friends. Like, look, these things, I think that they

3:01.9

have a time and a place in life and it doesn't always work out, but we were always like very careful every step of the

3:08.7

way to make sure we were prioritizing you know the friendship because that's what meant the most to

3:13.5

us and ultimately it still it still is yeah and the whole i mean everyone around are everyone's doing
