The Senate has kicked off its marathon voting session on President Donald Trump's sweeping domestic policy bill.

Trump is pressuring his party to pass the tax cuts and spending package in time for him to sign it by his deadline of this Friday, July 4th.

Both chambers are calling for historic spending cuts to Medicaid, which provides coverage

to more than 71 million low-income Americans.

The Congressional Budget Office said the Senate version of the bill would leave 11.8 million

more people uninsured by 2034, nearly a million more than the House version,

due to deeper cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.

It would slash Medicaid funding by $930 billion over a decade and impose stricter work requirements,

including for parents of older children. Republican Senator Tom Tillis from North Carolina is against the bill, and said he is not seeking

re-election next year.

That's after he was one of only two Republicans who voted against advancing it over the weekend.

Mr. President, we owe it to the American people, and I owe it to the people of North Carolina

to withhold my affirmative vote until it's demonstrated to me that we've done our homework.

It will need to pass through the House after the Senate before heading to the president's desk.

Authorities have confirmed the identity of the suspect in the firefighter ambush in Idaho as 20-year-old Wes Rowley.

That's according to a law enforcement official.

Investigators believe the suspect intentionally set a brushfire on Canfield Mountain on Sunday,

before opening fire on responding firefighters, killing two and injuring a third.
