Summary

Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers got a big win over the Las Vegas Raiders Sunday night thanks to a balanced offense and a turnover-led defense in a 23-18 close game at Allegiant Stadium. Kenny Pickett had his first game with two touchdown passes on a bomb to Calvin Austin III and a play action pass to Pat Freiermuth. That, coupled with a tough, gritty run game that combined both Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, and you saw the first time the Steelers' offense actually appeared to be balanced in a game this season. The defense had three interceptions, four sacks, and forced a turnover on downs in a huge performance against the Raiders, a team that hadn't given up a sack all season. Levi Wallace had two interceptions, Patrick Peterson with another, and T.J. Watt had two sacks to give him six on the season through three games. The win puts the Steelers at 2-1, and first place in the AFC North. I'm Chris Carter, the Locked-on Steelers podcast, and your Pittsburgh Steelers have won against the Las Vegas Raiders, 2318 at Allegiance Stadium.

0:11.0

The Steelers, now two and one and in sole possession of first place in the AFC North.

0:16.2

It was a true team win by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and I think that's the biggest thing that you could take positively out of this game

0:23.3

because you could say good things about both the offense and the defense and special teams.

0:28.2

Let's start with the offense.

0:29.3

Can you picket comes out?

0:30.2

16 of 28, 235 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, a pass rating of 108.5 looked efficient once he got himself set. Early on, did look a little bit shaky, almost through a pick six to Marcus Peters. But as you saw the game progress, he started to get the feel for it. Its feet were under him. He was making smarter decisions, even when he was just throwing the ball away. That was maturation of the young Kenny Pickett right in front of our eyes. And it's a very good sign that the offense can take steps forward.

0:56.7

Najee Harris and Jalen Warren, both tag teams for a decent day on the ground.

0:59.9

Nothing amazing, but they moved the ball when it was needed.

1:03.0

A well-spread out game between George Pickens getting 75 yards through the air, Calvin Austin with a 72-yard touchdown reception,

1:09.5

Pat Firmouth, 41 yards and a touchdown reception.

1:12.6

Really good job spreading the ball out around there.

1:15.0

But you can't overlook the defense that had three interceptions, four sacks, and a turnover

1:21.4

on downs forced.

1:22.9

This was a really impressive showing for a defense and a defense, I'll say, that also

1:27.2

had to put up with some shaky calls at times when the game was starting to be put away and the Steelers were taking control.

1:33.0

Mick of his Patrick had a huge sack on Jimmy Garoppolo.

1:35.9

Yes, there was a little touching of the helmets there, but it wasn't a forcible contact.

1:40.4

Even NBC's referees on TV were saying that was a terrible call by the officials there that swayed the game in the Raiders favor on top of the pass interference call on Shandon Sullivan in the end zone.

1:52.3

There are lots of things that look shaky there.

1:54.5

But I think the really good thing is that the defense did not lose their composure.

1:58.4

They kept bringing heat.
