Summary

Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to have rookie left tackle Broderick Jones on schedule after their first preseason game. A film review shows the NFL doesn't appear to be too fast for him and that he's got a good feel for how he needs to play. There are things to clean up, but when talking to Jones after Sunday's training camp practice, he expresses what he's focused on and where Mike Tomlin, Pat Meyer and the Steelers' coaches see him. Also impressive during the Steelers' preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was Keeanu Benton and the defensive line that showed strong depth for a group that was missing Cam Heyward and Larry Ogunjobi during the game. Between Benton, DeMarvin Leal, Isaiahh Loudermilk and Breiden Fehoko, the Steelers' defensive line looked strong and could be the deepest part of the Steelers' roster. Benton talks on the show about his first game. It looks like we'll finally get to the see the Steelers' real secondary this week after Damontae Kazee and Keanu Neal returned to practice Sunday along with Patrick Peterson and Joey Porter Jr., all who didn't play against the Buccaneers. Kazee talks about the group's chemistry, even while not having practiced much together yet, and Chris Carter explains the three keys this group needs to be an elite secondary. Now, if you wanted the full recap of what I thought, my initial thoughts on the first your audio apps, you know, Spotify, Apple, all those

different apps. So you can get my full thoughts there. We're going to start focusing on different

parts of the group now that I've had more time to digest some film. I've also put some

clips on my Twitter account at Carter Critique. So you want to see some of the things that I thought

1:22.5

were cool. Go check that out. But I want to focus on Broderick Jones because I felt that he had a very good

1:28.9

performance. And after having more time to review the tape, he did have mistakes. There were times

1:33.2

I think that he lost a little bit of alignment. His fundamentals weren't that clean. But he

1:37.2

looks on schedule to me because those were those times that happened. They were few. They

weren't all throughout the game.

1:44.4

I thought for most of the game, he looked confident, he looked poised, he looked like he understood what he was doing, and he looked strong and athletic.
