In the movie Star Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker fly in the most

sizely space port with R2D2 and C3PO and TŌ. Upon arrival, they run into some stormtroopers

looking for their droid companions. To get out of this pickle, Obi-Wan makes use of

a Jedi mind trick.

In recent years, these aren't the droids you're looking for has become a popular internet meme.

According to Know Your Meme.com, it's a catchphrase often used to humorously assert

that an object or statement is not representing what it appears to represent. For example,

Urban Dictionary used the example of Jim Singh, dude, that hot chick walking over here is

checking me out hard, and Steve responding, these aren't the droids you're looking for.

That's my girlfriend, dude. The meme is even found its way into the

courtrooms. In People vs Cooper, the defense tried to claim the Edward Cooper wasn't

when driving a motorcycle that was being driven recklessly despite strong evidence to

contrary. In closing, the prosecutor argued, the defense in this case is, and I'm

loath to use movie references, I'm hoping at least some of you understand this one, it's

pretty good, is the Jedi mind trick. That is the defense, these aren't the droids you're

looking for. This is the evidence, that is the argument, this isn't the driver.

In rejecting Cooper's ensuing appeal, the court held the opera haps overly flippant,

instant case did boil down to the prosecutor insisting that the defendant was the driver

of the motorcycle, while the defendant asserted he was not the driver of the motorcycle.
