It was showtime and prime time. This is your cheat sheet for the State of the Union. I'm Jenna,

and this is smarter news, and I'm so glad we get to spend a little time together today.

I used the term showtime loosely, but I did for a reason. The length of the State of the Union

was about the same length as a movie. There were emotional highs and lows. There was some tension,

albeit not enough to make it R-rated. And at the end, there was sort of these feel-good moments.

So I feel like the comparison to a movie sort of works here for what now has become the longest

state of the union in modern history, at least. We're going to talk a little bit about that.

What I have arranged for you today is really looking at what are some of the newsworthy moments from this address. There's

often all sorts of different analysis about what transpired last night for any president. There's

always a great deal of anticipation for any president who has this opportunity to speak in front

of Congress and really speak in front of

not only the American public, but also the global audience. It is very rare that a president

has the opportunity to have such an important microphone and to be able to do basically whatever

he wants, talk about whatever he wants, focus on any topic that he thinks is important,

and present it to the

entire world. So the state of the union is a newsworthy event. But within this particular speech,

there were also very interesting newsworthy moments. And as I'm looking across the media

landscape, I see a lot of analysis. I'm sure you see this too. It's part of the reason probably that you found smarter news. You get some media outlets that love President Trump that are talking about how great the speech is. You have other media outlets that don't like President Trump that say the speech is terrible. And there's very few places in the middle where you can just find out what happened and why it matters. And that's really our promise at Smarter News. And that's why I'm so grateful for our community because I know you're here out of curiosity and trying to learn something from the news as am I. And I don't want to be like the other guys. I want to actually give you something different. And that's what we're going to do today. One of the things that's often missing from the news, and I've talked about this quite a bit, is a little historic context. So before I get into some of

the newsworthy items, by the way, I pulled three. I also pulled one of the most political moments,

because you're going to see that again. And then also I pulled a couple other little bits that I think
