So today we have a state of the podcast episode for those who are interested in what's happening and what's changing with the show.

And there are some big changes in store starting in December.

So, without further ado, let's just get right into it.

After eight years, the show's getting a name that actually reflects what we cover.

So we're going to change the name to Empire, Republic, and the Shadow Wars. Now here's why the change matters and why we are making it.

When I started this project back in 2017, the working title was The American History Podcast.

Broad enough to cover anything, vague enough to mean nothing.

And for a while, it worked.

We were doing a season on Colonial America, and yes, I swear I'm going to get back to that a while it worked. We were doing a season on colonial America, and yes,

I swear I'm going to get back to that and finish it soon. Then there was the war with Mexico,

the progressives, and the Great Depression. Season four, of course, is on the Pacific Theater.

We were essentially bouncing around different conflicts, trying to build an audience, and I was kind of trying to find my voice.

It might sound strange, but it's true.

However, as the show evolved, a pattern emerged.

I wasn't interested just covering wars that Americans knew about, the ones with clear start dates and ticker tape parades.

I was spending just as much time on the wars that don't make it into the high school textbooks.

The covert campaigns, the proxy fights.

And by this, I'm really referring to 1983, the year the world almost ended,

as well as what I've got in the planning stages.
