Summary

Avination, I wish this was a regular Tuesday interview-style podcast. But, with Coronavirus doing its best to disrupt our economy, health care, and aviation industries, I figured it was necessary to have an episode (maybe more) about the FACTS. In this episode, I reached out to department chair and Professor of Aviation at the University of North Dakota, Dr. Jim Higgins. We talked about where the industry is today, what we have been through in the past, and what the future could hold.

0:03.0	My name is Jim Higgins. I'm a professor at the University of North Dakota, John Deyodor Guard School of Aerospace Sciences. I've been teaching there since about summer 2002.

0:31.5	And so I've been studying the pilot supply since 2009 in detail and have

0:48.8	industry. Today is Sunday March 15th at 1.m. and this is what we know so far.
0:54.8	American Airlines has cut international flying by 75 percent.
0:58.0	They're grounding most of its wide-bodied fleet from March 16th to at least May 6th.
1:03.0	American is only going to be operating three long haul routes during March through May.
1:06.7	They're going to operate Dallas to London, Dallas to Tokyo, and Miami to London.
1:10.8	What we know from Delta is they are going to cut global capacity by 40% in
1:14.7	park up to 300 jets. This includes both narrow bodies and wide bodies and they see the
1:19.6	demand plummet amid the coronavirus outbreak. United was the first react and they have
1:24.8	at least a system capacity cut of 20% beyond April through the summer. Now a lot can
1:30.1	change as we go on and even from when you listen to this this is a day by day
1:33.8	reaction this podcast could be a whole different by the time when you listen to
