At Wimbledon, it's a good day and a bad day for American tennis players. At the MLB draft, a picture goes number one for the first time in half a decade.

And as an aging US soccer legend announces her retirement, an up-and-comer grabs the spotlight. From Wondry, I'm Tifoshinsky.

1:53.0

And I'm Anders Keltow. It's Monday, July 10th. And this is starting five sports news you need to start your day.

2:05.0

Okay, we're beginning today's episode at Wimbledon where American tennis fans saw one US player, Cruz de Vickery, on Sunday. And another due sort of the opposite.

2:17.0

Yeah, Tif, we're going to start with sort of the opposite here. Number 10, he did American Francis Tiafo, the guy who stole the hearts of tennis fans at last year's US Open.

3:26.0

And in the process, she became only the fifth American woman in the past 25 years to reach the quarters of all four majors during Sloan Stevens, Madison Keys, and Venus and Serena Williams as the only Americans to do that. Go girl indeed.

3:39.0

Here she is talking about the accomplishment after the match.
