One of my growing interests these last few years has been in the Myers-Briggs personality type

indicator system, profiling and understanding the psychology behind

personalities. This is one of those areas where I find that life and stories kind of inform one another

I use Meyersburgs all the time in my own life but also in my writing.

Right now as I'm working on character sketches for my portal fantasy sequel Dreambreaker, I'm using

the Meyersburg system more fully that I ever have before, if only because my own understanding

of the system keeps growing.

Although typing my characters was something I resisted once upon a time.

I feared it might lead me to create cardboard stereotypes,

but I have found just the opposite to be true.

Understanding human psychology to a greater degree

not only allows me more depth in bringing my characters to life,

and especially their motivations,

but the fun thing is it works in reverse.

The more time I spend profiling characters,

the better I find myself understanding other people's

personalities in my real life. So, win-win.
