Starmer Is Killing UK Pubs – Rick Cressman Slams Labour’s Hospitality Wrecking
#UKPubs #Starmer #LabourParty #RickCressman #JonGaunt #HospitalityCrisis #UKpolitics
Jon Gaunt interviews Rick Cressman, owner of Nailcote Hall in Warwickshire, to expose how Keir Starmer’s Labour government is destroying British pubs and hospitality.

📉 A pub is now closing every single day across the UK.
💷 And for every £3 spent on food and drink in a pub, £1 goes straight to the taxman.

In this explosive interview, Rick discusses:
• Labour’s minimum wage increases and National Insurance hikes
• The crippling effect of business rates on small hospitality venues
• The real cost of running a pub in 2025 under Labour
• Why the government may be undermining social life and local culture

📌 “Do they want us isolated at home instead of together in our communities?”

💔 Rick also opens up about his brother Tom Cressman, who was murdered by Jane Andrews, former royal dresser to Sarah Ferguson. He shares the lifelong impact on his family and the media exploitation that followed.

Hi, welcome to the John Gaunt podcast. A kind of new mini-series here is called John Gant

Meets. And basically it's me meeting and talking to interesting people. They could be from

0:13.6

the world of politics, the world of sport, the world of leisure. Also one of my favorite

0:18.1

subjects, they could be from the world of pubs and hospitality.

0:22.2

This headline in the Daily Telegraph screamed at me early last week.

0:27.2

It says Britain to lose a pub a day as Labour's tax raid bites.

0:33.2

The government is accused of calling last orders as the industry fears 6,000 jobs will go this year alone.

0:42.5

So I'm asking, is this the end of the British boozer? Is it the end of hospitality?

0:48.9

And if it is, what's caused it? Is it COVID? Is it the N.I Tax rises? Is it the minimum wage? Or is it a combination

0:57.2

of all those things? It's the British Beer and Pub Association, the BBPA, who are predicting

1:04.5

that 378 pubs will shut across England, Wales and Scotland before the end of this year,

1:13.5

and that's up from 350 closures last year. It'll mean that the number of pubs will be at their

1:21.5

lowest level this century. They also state that for every three quid spent on pints that you and I spend in a boozer, either on beer or food, one pound of it goes straight to Rachel Reeves and the government in tax.

1:42.4

This is unsustainable.

1:44.6

If like me, you think pubs, hospitality, restaurants,

1:49.1

if you think that's all part of the fabric of Britain,

1:52.5

we've got to do something to stop this happening.

1:56.5

So I thought I'd have a chat with Rick Kresman,

1:59.3

an old mate of mine,

2:00.7

but he also runs a very,

2:02.0

very successful hotel on the outskirts of Coventry and Birmingham in a place called

2:07.0

Berkswell called Nailcott Hotel, that Nailcott Hall Hotel. It's got a lovely golf course
