where I presented cases of couples who are forever linked to one another

for both love and murder. In that series I detailed the case of Charles Starkweather and Carol

Fugate. In 1958 19-year-old Starkweather went on a killing spree that shocked the nation.

He took his 14-year-old girlfriend Carol with him.

The story of that crime spree has become a legend in true crime history,

and Starkweather and Fugate had been portrayed. has become a legend in true crime history,

had been portrayed as villains on par with Bonnie and Clyde.

In this episode, I revisit this case

by speaking with best-selling true crime author Harry McLean.

In his new book Stark Weather, the untold story of the killing spree that changed America,

he takes a comprehensive look at this case and comes to some new conclusions

about Hero Fue Gates guilt or innocence in the murders. Harry McLean has been one of my

favorite true crime authors since I first read his Edgar

Award winning true crime book in broad daylight in the late 1980s. In broad

daylight was made into a television movie in 1991 and was Harry McLean's first book. I have

really been looking forward to speaking with Harry about his new book and
