So one of the things that I'm thinking about when Asoka comes out is the fact that there

0:29.5

is a growing divide in the fandom in terms of the depiction of Thron.

0:36.5

Interesting. Like when we're speaking visually.

0:39.5

Not just visually, but in terms of the character. How he acts, what his motivations are, is he a hero or a villain?

0:50.5

I feel like the fandom is kind of split. I don't know if it's down the middle so necessarily like 60, 40, 60 being like in the villain category, 40 being in the hero or I could, I could totally have that wrong and at 60 in the hero category, 40 and the villain category.

1:08.5

But I'm really interested to see what they do with Thron in Asoka in terms of are we going to get any sort of hint or background about what he, what his motivations are like, why is he a blue alien in the empire?

1:28.5

Because the books explain that, right? We understand why he's doing what he's doing and it's to protect his people.

1:37.5

Yeah. And it's tricky too because I feel like most people who I'm firmly in the villain camp, I think Thron is a baddie.

1:46.5

He's like a bad guy that I love to hate. You know, I think he's a really cool, interesting, complex character.

1:54.5

But I think he's straight up a villain. I see where people get the hero stuff, especially if you're a huge fan of the books, you know, but I think it's just like the bias of being experiencing a story through someone's own perspective.

2:09.5

Because you're in Thron's head for those books. They're told in a very strong internal kind of monologue of Thron's almost even be first person.

2:21.5

They really, they're just this side of being first person. Because I mean, like you're getting explicit, like descriptions of his thought patterns and, you know, those kind of things.

2:36.5

Right. So I feel like it's easy to when you're experiencing a story through that kind of lens to relate to a character and see how, you know, like, oh, this character is like me in these ways.

2:46.5

And, you know, but that's why he's such a good character because all of that is true. And he's still for sure a villain to me.

2:54.5

What I think is really cool about Thron is that he's layered and he's nuanced unlike Palpatine. I think Palpatine is just like, I like as just pure evil.

3:02.5

There's no, and that's the point. He's supposed to just be the most evil thing you can imagine.

3:07.5

Right. And I think it would be an interesting story to see like maybe Thron got into the empire truly to protect his own people. And he didn't agree with the ideals of the empire, but somewhere along the way he got lost in it.

3:21.5

And now he is that, you know what I mean? And I think there's a powerful story there because it's almost like a mirror to Anakin a little bit.

3:29.5

I think that's something that the conversation around Thron is there's going to be a lot of talk about that when a soak comes out in my opinion.

3:39.5

Did you read the the new trilogy of Thron books that is considered canon, right?

3:45.5

So the first one, right. There's two new canon.

3:50.5

The canon, the chronologies, your six total canon, Thron books. Yes.
