It required all war power in reverse to pull us away from the stop.

But like snapping a rubber band, the breakaway sent us plunging through space out of control to stop here, wherever we are.

The United States Air Force picks up a UFO on radar.

They send a stock footage jet to investigate and we're treated to a view of the USS Enterprise

wobbling through the clouds like a drunken Goodyear blimp.

The Enterprise has apparently flown too close to a black hole and in trying to accelerate out of it, they have time warped back into the past.

Like snapping a rubber band, yeah, yeah, that's the ticket. Scotty tells us that aside from secondary systems, the enterprise is ship shape. And Kirk gets casual reports of minor injuries. Realizing that they're in the atmosphere of Earth, Kirk orders them out, but Sulu struggles to Starship's controls in the heavy air. O'Hura reports no Starfleet communications, but a radio signal

reports an impending moonshot launch, leading Kirk to realize there's somewhere in the late

1960s of Earth. Worse, O'Hura reports ground-to-air communications that imply they're being

intercepted by military craft. Spock fearmongers that this primitive jet might start shooting

nukes at the

Enterprise, so Kirk orders the jet tractored. Unfortunately, said primitive jet doesn't handle

the tractor beam so well and disintegrates, but not before transporters can lock on to the hapless

pilot and beam him out. The pilot is Captain John Christopher of the United States Air Force,

and he's understandably upset by being kidnapped by aliens.
