Summary

This week is 80 years since the end of the Battle of Stalingrad and we're running a special series to mark the occasion.

In the first episode of the series James and Al set the scene from the beginning of 1942, explaining the scale of the Eastern Front and the mindsets of Hitler and Stalin at that point in the war

We're also introduced to Freidrich Paulus, who found himself in command of the German 6th Army despite his lack of field experience.
