Summary

We could not have asked for a better guest in this last month before the 2020 election, than Georgia Gubernatorial Candidate Stacey Abrams. After running a hard fought campaign for governor, Abrams went on to found her organization, Fair Fight. Somehow, this powerhouse finds time between fighting for voter rights, delivering political commentary, and, yes, writing romance novels, to also maintain her status as a massive fan of Star Trek. Hosts Tawny Newsome and Paul F. Tompkins talk to Abrams about politics, ethics, and one of her favorite episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Yes. Woo! This is one of those ones.

0:21.5

I know we've mentioned before about how we recorded a lot of these interviews, most of

0:26.1

these interviews back in the before and teen.

0:29.2

This is one of the ones that I'm like, huh, if I had recorded this interview anytime

0:36.1

recently, I would have asked very different questions. We may not have

0:40.3

talked about Star Trek. Yes. There may have been no Star Trek in the Star Trek podcast.

0:44.9

Absolutely. Absolutely. But we had a delightful chat with Stacey Abrams, who is so smart and funny and

0:53.8

personable and relatable. It was a great chat. But let's, I want to check

0:57.9

in with you. We're recording remotely, of course. You are in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I am. And how

1:06.2

are you doing? I'm doing fine. It's a little strange because in order for things to start back up again, everyone's very, very isolated, which is good. So I'm very isolated. So a lot of times people go like, oh, how's Atlanta? And I'm like, I literally don't know. I go from my little home to my little work set, and that's it. But. But, yeah, it's interesting to be talking about leader Abrams right now

1:31.2

while being on her digs, on her home turf.

1:33.9

Yeah, when we did not know the stuff was coming.

1:36.5

I was on set recently for the first time since quarantine,

1:39.2

and it's a weird mixture of normal and paranoid, where you feel like, oh, I'm doing a familiar thing.

1:46.9

I'm going back to work. This is what I'm used to. It's nice to be around other people.

1:51.0

But then at the same time, everyone's wearing masks and shields. And it's sort of, you absolutely

1:56.9

feel the fragility of human life the whole time you're there.

2:02.3

You know what I think about?

2:08.3

I think about like when our live action track shows go back, when and if they have, I don't know if they have yet.
