We offer up this rose wry for Margot and for Olivia Canili and for Dainian Clay.

And I also want to pray for my daughter, Monica, and for the country of Nicaragua and Nigeria,

the church is particularly persecuted in those countries.

Today is the Feast of St. Monica. So our title in those

today's the feast of St. Monica so our title for the Rosary is St. Monica conquering through perseverance.

St. Monica's life was not what we often think a saint's life should be, and nor was her son,

Augustine's life like that. Monica's husband, Patriceus, was a Roman nobleman, not a Christian.

He focused on worldly things.

Monac was often neglected, even abused,

and suffered the immeasurable wounds of repeated infidelities.

Her pain was further complicated when her talented but mischievous son

ended up living with his girlfriend even having a son with her out of

wedlock and joined a strange anti-Christian sect known as the Mannequians. This is a saint's life?

I used to think that saints were born that way, born as saints,

and that they didn't have the problems or temptations that I had, this ridiculous notion was banished

when I discovered saints like Monica, which is why I have a daughter named for her.

Despite her difficulties, she never gave up on
