Welcome to our Rosary meditation.

I'm blessed to be praying with the spiritual mentoring team

that one week from now will be training 80 people from all over the

country to be spiritual mentors. This is a very special group of people, lay people, who've committed themselves to a deep life of prayer,

the pursuit of holiness, and to help others grow in prayer and holiness. Very special group. But they shouldn't be unique because

everyone is called to a deep life of prayer and to help others to holiness.

So God bless you all for what you are doing and you are the example to others.

So let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

It's called to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Today is a feast of St. Josephine Bakeda. Born in 1869 in Darfur, Sudan, she was

kidnapped when she was nine years old by Muslim slave traders and forced to walk 600 miles barefoot.

She was then sold five times in the slave markets of Sudan. Every day she was whipped

until she blood.

Finally, in 1862, Bakita was bought by an Italian merchant who returned to Venice taking her with him.

But soon after, he had to return to Sudan, so he entrusted Bakita

to Catholic nuns in Venice. There she learned about God in heaven for the first time.

Up to this time she had known only slave masters who beat her,

but now she heard of the King of the Universe

who is goodness and love in person. What is more this lord knew her, loved

her, delighted in her. This master of the universe had himself become a slave like her and had been
