I'm Dr. Elizabeth Klein and I'm joined today by Dr. Christopher Bloom to talk about St. John Henry Newman.

This, I know, is a favorite saint of Dr. Bloom, so I'm very excited to hear what he has to say.

Dr. Bloom is not only teaches classes in theology, philosophy, history, but also in Catholic education,

for which Newman, you know, is associated with Catholic education renewal, and we'll come back to that.

But given his multiple talents, I wanted to ask Dr. Bloom,

what is your favorite class to teach among all of these disciplines? Oh, wow. Well, my favorite

class is called Virtue Happiness and the Common Good. And it is a class that involves the slow

and careful reading of Aristotle's Nicomachean ethics.

It's more exciting than it sounds.

It's about living the good life both for yourself and for others.

This is true.

It is more exciting.

I don't know virtue happiness in the common good.

What's not the like?

No, I met the Nicomachean ethics part.

it's an intimidating text, but all the more reason to read it slowly and with joy.
