| 0:34.8 | So let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. |
| 0:37.6 | Amen. Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for. |
| 0:42.8 | Now, James the Less was the cousin of Jesus and the first bishop of Jerusalem. |
| 0:49.8 | And he's not to be confused with James the Greater, the brother of St. John. |
| 0:56.1 | Remember our Lord called James the Greater and John the Sons of Thunder? |
| 1:02.5 | Well, this is the other James. |
| 1:05.6 | This other James preached the gospel with exceptional zeal in Jerusalem for over 30 years where he was the bishop. |
| 1:14.4 | But his success was met with fierce opposition by the leaders of the Jews who wanted to kill him. |
| 1:22.3 | And in 62 AD, a group of furious scribes and Pharisees demanded that James renounce his faith in Jesus, |
| 1:32.0 | and when he flatly refused, they arrested him, took him to the pinnacle of the temple, |
| 1:40.2 | and threw him down to the angry mob below. Still alive, the mob began to stone him, |
| 1:47.4 | and as he prayed for their forgiveness, |
| 1:50.0 | he was bludgeoned to death with clubs. |
| 1:53.0 | He's buried in the Cathedral of St. James, |
| 1:56.2 | in the Armenian quarter in Jerusalem, |
| 2:00.1 | where we will visit this June. |
