Today is a big day for Teresa, who normally praise the Rosary with me because the hockey playoffs start. the is a huge Bruins fan.

But that's not the topic of this Rosary.

For today is also the Feast of St. James the Less

So let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Now, James the Less was the cousin of Jesus and the first Bishop of Jerusalem, and he's not to be confused with James the Greater, the brother of St. John.

Remember our Lord called James the Greater and John, the Sons of Thunder?

Well, this is the other James.

This other James preached the gospel with exceptional zeal in Jerusalem for over 30 years where he

was the Bishop, but his success was met with fierce opposition by the leaders of the Jews who wanted to kill him.

And in 62 AD, a group of furious scribes and Pharisees demanded that James renounce

his faith in Jesus, and when he flatly refused, they arrested him, took him to the pinnacle of the temple

and threw him down to the angry mob below. Still alive the mob began to stone him and as he

prayed for their forgiveness he was bludgeoned to death with clubs. He's buried in the Cathedral of St. James in the Armenian

quarter in Jerusalem where we will visit this June.
