0:38.4	And this is part four of a four-part series talking about four characteristics that are essential to the Christian life.
0:40.5	We're pre-gaming Lent in a sense.
0:41.8	We're preparing for Lent.
0:47.4	And so we've been looking at different virtues from this great work of St. Francis DeSales,
0:48.8	the introduction to the devout life.
0:53.0	Today we're going to be talking about bravery and fortitude.
0:54.0	Why did you pick this virtue? Well, I think it's sort of
0:56.3	undersold today, you might say. It's one of the surprising features of the introduction of
1:01.0	life that as the book reaches its crescendo, as it were, I mean, is it sort of, you've been
1:07.9	working through the basics, how to pray, humility so that we're
1:14.0	standing right towards God, the evangelical councils, and how to live them as a layperson in the
1:19.5	world.
1:20.5	The surprising thing is that we come to an end by being encouraged by this great saint.
1:27.1	He wants to stir up in us a kind of determination
1:30.7	to put these lessons into practice.
1:33.3	And I think that today, maybe we're just not as aware
1:38.3	as we should be that we need to be encouraged,
1:41.6	that we need to have fortitude in all of its different manifestations.
