Summary

It's time for our Spring Bookshelf episode. We check in on our reading lives and Erica's daily nonfic reading. We share what we've read, are reading, and what's on deck. Plus, what our kids are reading.

Just for Friends of the Show on Patreon, we're diving into how we're managing our book queues, troubleshooting Kelsey's challenges in this area, and we have some real talk about Goodreads (side-eye).

Welcome to The Girl Next Door. I'm Kelsey. And I'm Erica. In every episode, we bring our different

0:08.8

perspectives to candid conversations that feel like chatting with good friends. We started this show

0:13.7

years ago when we were next door neighbors and still haven't run out of things to talk and laugh about

0:18.6

yet. We are back with another bookshelf episode for you today,

0:22.6

where we share what's on our bookshelves and what's happening in our reading lives. Before we talk

0:28.3

about what we've been reading, we want to tell you about an upcoming bonus episode just for

0:33.5

friends of the show that we think you'll enjoy if you like books and if you have tweens or teens

0:38.6

in your house. We'll have an entire episode discussing the book 14 talks before age 14. This is a

0:46.7

great book that I read and told Erica we need to talk about, so we're going to do that on the mics.

0:52.3

That episode will air May 6th, so grab a copy of 14 talks

0:56.7

before age 14 and join us as a friend of the show to get that bonus episode. I need to read

1:02.2

that book like yesterday. Right. Let's get on it. I am needing a refresh already and I read it

1:08.1

within the year, so it will be timely my highlighter out it will be timely

1:12.1

for us all okay let's talk about books and reading one of our all-time favorite topics

1:17.7

I would love to know how's your reading life lately I always like to check in and I want to know

1:24.4

about how your nonfiction reading is going. You had this whole great daily syllabus

1:29.3

plan that you designed for yourself, which I love so much. So tell us about all of that.

1:34.1

So I will say overall my reading life is going great. I am starting, I'm dreaming up plans of my

1:40.5

library that we're putting in. I'm collecting books and just loving it and I'm flying through them. I read from a different book each day of the week, like during the weekdays. So it's going good. I'm not as consistent as I would like to be. There's some weeks where I'm like, oh, it's Thursday and I totally forgot. But it is going good and it is just helping me like slowly go through books. And I also think I really

2:01.0

like to read nonfiction slowly like that because there's things to learn from it and absorb,

2:05.8

but also it can get dry faster. And if you're just trying to read a whole book, sometimes

2:11.0

they're like, I'm ready for another topic. You know what I mean? Yes. So it helps with that.
