As always, I'm joined my colleague and fellow Kirste Barrett's fan of Rob Zackney. Rob, I started this podcast, as always, with a question.

When we last recorded, Chicago Cubs were definitively one of the best teams in baseball

and then immediately went into the tank.

Did we curse them?

I don't think we did because that would imply that this is not a, like, that we have not seen this before, right?

That everything was going fine.

And what did we do to change the energy?

But we know the Cubs, like through a few regimes now, this has been the pattern of like,

Cubs maybe start slow, then sort of catch fire in the summer and then

right as like the playoff race is starting to harden up you like they start to stumble and then

fall apart and then it's like well we're playing for a wild card uh But even if we get into the postseason,

you need to score runs in order to advance in the postseason.

You need to have, you need to have, you know,

at least one pitcher who can always get you a game.

So we've seen various versions of like the Cubs mid like late season stall.

And I feel like this one just sucks more because they looked so good.

The fact that it was like that beyond the record, their offense was really humming.

That like they were kind of an explosive team in a way that they haven't been in years.

But I also did remember like there were a lot of games where I'd be watching them,

particularly like home games.

And there are a lot of things that I was like, oh, that is a pop out fly ball,
