Summary

On this episode, Kristen talks to me about how to stay race fit & race ready when you are juggling a life & interests outside of racing, but yet are a highly competitive athlete with aspirations.

TAKE AWAY POINTS:

  • BALANCE - Does racing have to be your sole focus to be successful?
  • Consider being content & at peace with being a top athlete, but not always the "winner"
  • Make a mental effort to not get caught up in what others are doing
  • Be ok with going with the flow
  • Train & use what you have at hand & time allows

Hey Spartans, this is Kevin Gilotti and welcome to the Spartan athlete.

Christensen is an interesting case because she's a very, very strong athlete and a mom, but she's found a good balance where she doesn't get too serious about the

0:25.7

racing, but when she comes to perform, she performs. But unlike most of the other athletes

0:30.6

see out there, the top women, she's not solely focused on just this avenue of racing.

0:37.2

How do you pull that balance off?

0:39.2

I mean it's hard sometime because I'm a really competitive person and there's a PCB that when I come out here I know I want to do well

0:45.9

but at the end of the day I just don't have the time or do I want to have only my life based around this

0:52.2

so it's just finding that balance and being okay

0:54.8

with being in that top group, but maybe knowing

0:57.6

that I'm not going to be on the podium every race

1:00.0

or winning the race.

1:01.3

And I just kind of come to peace with that.

1:03.2

I've raced for a lot of years.

1:04.7

And at this point, I get a lot of satisfaction

1:06.8

of still being able to get out there and all the friendships

1:10.0

and just leaving it all out there and what I have and being okay with that.

1:14.3

Yeah, you've proven to be a pretty formidable athlete and one that a lot of people don't

1:19.7

see coming because you don't come to a lot of races but when you come you

1:24.0

generally make a pretty strong statement. Talk to me a little bit about does it

make you nervous when you see a lot of your competition post and I'm training this I'm training
