on the surprising stories of our homes and the history behind them. Host Kevin O'Connor

digs into the systems, structures and materials in our homes from unexpected

angles and explores the forces that led us to where we are today. In the

episode we're sharing with you entitled Framing, they don't build them like they

used to. Clear story explores how the Homestead Act, Lake Michigan and the

Great Chicago Fire of 1871 combined to change the way we frame houses today.

Throughout the 10 episode first season of the podcast you'll hear from this

Obviously we're in old houses all the time at this old house so we see all

kinds of structures, new additions to an original Victorian, reconfigured floor

plans to open a kitchen up and most of the time nor maveramon, Tommy Sola, like

to say, you know they don't build them like they used to. Now when they say

that they're giving a nod to the builders of old to their craftsmanship and

attention to detail but as we're about to learn building the way they used to

isn't necessarily a good thing.
