Summary

It was eight years ago today that a 17-year-old by the name of Raheem Sterling was brought on for his Liverpool debut by Kenny Dalglish. In doing so, Sterling became the third youngest player in the Reds’ history, and over the next four seasons he went on to make 129 appearances for the club, underlining his status as one of the game’s brightest young talents. However, his actions leading up to his £49m move to Manchester City in the summer of 2015 left a bad taste in the mouth of Liverpool supporters that lingers to this day. But is it time to move on? To forget, if not forgive? And with Sterling fluttering his eyelashes at Real Madrid, and history potentially repeating itself, would you have him back at Anfield if the chance arose? Sterling himself hasn’t ruled it out. With Guy Clarke mediating, Theo Squires and Matt Addison go head-to-head in our new podcast, Split Opinion. Very good. Thank you Guy here yeah. Ready for a watch for being interesting debate.

Yeah, thanks for joining us. First things first before we get into the nitty gritty of things.

1:01.0

Do either of you know who Rahim Sterling came on for in that game?

1:05.4

As I say, it was a two under feet at home, too wig and athletic, but just wondered if either of

1:10.0

you could take a punt at who he may have come on and replace. I'll ask you first,

1:14.7

Theo, and then I'll come to you, Matt. It's going to be someone mad, isn't it? It's going to be like a

fallback or something. I'm going to go Glen Johnson and Matt. I'm going to go a little bit more obvious. I'm going to go for Stephen

Gerard maybe. Wasn't Stephen Gerard listeners, can you that's right they put you two to shame

Dirk count was the answer he was the man that sterling came on for but anyway

batting either side of what Rahim Sterling, the feeling towards him is from Liverpool fans when he left and also what it is now.

So Matt, I think you're going to be in the corner of wanting to, I wouldn't say stick up for

Rahim Sterling, but certainly with him having now moved on for well coming up towards five years since he moved on
