I think Postone was working in the 80s and 90s at the same time as Robert Kurtz and the

Verst Critique Group and I think also the crisis group, both amount of uh... west germany at the time

and i think that the reason why

postone comes to this particular value critique position

uh... the the the western marxists in g in Germany come to it all in the 1980s and 90s

is because a lot of the foundational sort of manuscripts and early works of Marx

were actually being published for the first time starting in the 1970s.

So it took about a decade for theorists to be able to get in and see the notes that Marx took and all

the stuff that didn't make it into capital volume one two three the

Grunrissa and various other documents that were published to try to to see what

the what the what the what the point of the entire critique is like when you talk about critique from the standpoint of

labor this is like a lot of times people ascribe to Marx and Marxism the idea of the labor theory of value, right? Everyone's

probably familiar of that and then you'll get into an argument with some

marginalist out there, some like neo-classical economists, who will bring up the

transformation problem, Marxism has never been able to transform value into prices, or they'll bring

up various other sort of empirical difficulties with

proving Marxism as an economic science.

What I think started to arise in the late 20th century was I think a much more a critique that was

much truer to what Marx himself was it was actually trying to do which was not

formulate the labor theory of value which is

something that Ricardo and Smith had done before them but actually critiqued that

in an imminent way and what he was actually talking about as CLR James said as far back as the 1930s is not the
