My father was born in the mountains.

Technically he came from a middle-class East Coast family, but his heart was in the mountains

and it was a love unparalleled to almost anything else in his life.

In the early to late 70s, he spent a lot of time in Canada.

That was sort of where he became a man.

He learned to climb there, he met many of his best friends there, and in 1989, those

mountains called him back.

All of my memories of my father are very dear and he and I were buddies through and through.

Not all of them are pleasant memories.

I remember him having a terrible temper and there were times when I made him absolutely

furious.

I remember once I tattled on him to my mother because he had taken me climbing on a rock

at a rock quarry and of course no one was allowed to climb there, but of course he thought

it was pretty cool to take this little burl up and teach her how to climb.
