Welcome to Dedicated. I'm your host Doug Brunt. Today we're with Spencer Claven. Spencer is a

best-selling author and a trained classicist with a PhD from Oxford, where he's gone on to be a lecturer

at Oxford. He is also the very successful host of the podcast, Young Heretics. Spencer, welcome to the show. Doug, it's great to be here. When you said I'm a trained classicist, I feel like everybody has to stand back. I don't know if there's something dangerous about that. You're the first trained classicist I've ever met. Are you really? I'm excited to find out what all that means. Okay. Me too, actually. It'll be an adventure, a learning discovery for both of us.

But we'll do it with some scotch for sure. Yes, okay. We've got a McCallon-12 year here, which by the way is the very drink that your dad and I had here about a year ago. I know. I feel like I've let the side down by not coming out for something more

original, but honestly, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. This is a good choice. Excellent. Do a couple

fingers there. Cheers. Thank you very much. Cheers. Terrific. That is good. That is good stuff. Very easy on the bartender, too. That's even easier than opening a beer. Exactly. You can just, you know, take it and eat, sip it slow. As I was saying to you earlier, I have the palate of a chain smoker. So only very intense flavors make any kind of impression upon me. You want people talk about wine, you know, the graphite and the faint top notes of petrol.

I'm like, I don't have the taste buds.

The minute you start like pricing wine over like $100, I start to think I don't have that

many taste buds.

Right.

This is waste for the time.

I was joking with you that I've got to save something for old age.

If I start drinking scotch now, what's going to penetrate my palate later on? But maybe it is old age. Maybe I've arrived. Yeah, I've got to start drinking scotch now. Age ain't nothing but a number. Personally, I've been 65 since I was about 15. So. And I'm having a great time, you know, old men have all the fun. Like the Michael J. Keaton, right? Yeah, Michael, not Mike. Alex P. Keaton.
