Well, thanks so much for having me. I am a professor of history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I've been there for about going on 14 years now, I guess.

It's interesting to think of being a professor as a kind of ministry. I guess it is.

I also do a fair amount of journalism about religion and politics and higher education, really focused on

trying to get as much theology into the public square, into conversation in mainstream secular

spaces as I can. And I suppose at my university, I mean, there's a kind of pastoral component

to teaching and working with students that is really important to me. And it's always really fun to

be engaged with students who are trying to work out their relationship to the history of the

ideas and the religious traditions that we're studying. Yeah, it's fun. I think that theology can be
