It is the trade deadline preview edition of RICO Bronia.

In less than a week on July 31st at 6 o'clock p.m. Eastern time, we will get to the MOB trade deadline.

What we will do today on the RICO is preview a lot of names, a lot of relievers, some starters,

some bats that the Mets could potentially add, what the price tag is going to be on a lot of these guys,

what we think David Stearns should do, what we think he will do. And I start by saying

that my feeling is so different than last year. You know, last year I agreed with David

Stern's approach. I argued with Hoff in that I didn't want to go balls to the wall.

Like I liked the team. I believed in the team, but I wasn't ready to do those all in moves.

Those, you know, risky, this guy can be a future star. We're renting a player for a few months,

but hey, we're close to a world

championship kind of moves. And you could argue I was wrong because ultimately the Mets did

get to the sixth game of the National League Championship series. I don't think I was wrong

because when I think back to where the Mets ended up, what was available at the trade deadline, the cost of those

players, what were they really going to do and what difference would it have made?

You know what I mean?

Like Tanner Scott was a guy we were all attracted to last year because similar to this

year, the Mets bullpen was their clear need.

That was the number one need as we sat here a year ago at this time.

And Tanner Scott was the best piece available.

And he was going to cost a lot.
