Summary

After a brief government shutdown in the early hours Friday morning, President Trump signed a bipartisan budget bill passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives. The one thing not included in the bill was DACA, which Congress now has until March 5th to legalize. Maria catches up with Julio, who spent the week reporting on the ground in Washington D.C.. We hear from dreamers and advocates during the National Day of Action for the Dream Act. Julio also gets the latest from Capitol Hill from Cristina Jiménez, executive director of United We Dream, and Camila DeChalus, immigration reporter with CQ Roll Call.

0:10.8	So we're dropping this special edition of In The Thick because after a brief government
0:16.5	shutdown in the early hours of Friday morning, which is the second shutdown this year, President Trump tweeted in the morning of Friday
0:24.7	that the budget bill was signed. Right and the bill is going to increase funding for
0:28.8	disaster relief, children's health insurance, but of course President Trump, you know what he's mostly most about is the major boost for funding in the military.
0:36.8	So basically what this bill has done is that it has funded the government for the next two years.
0:41.2	It's going to fend off another shutdown only for six weeks
0:45.7	because, you know, the one thing that everybody
0:48.3	has been talking about and why was there a government shutdown
0:51.1	in the first place is the thing that is not included in
0:54.3	this bill that was just voted on by Democrats and Republicans and that is
0:58.9	DACA which is deferred action for childhood arrivals.
1:02.6	Right now Congress has until March 5th
1:04.8	to basically reinstitute DACA,
1:06.8	which Trump killed late last year.
1:09.2	So Julio, you went down to Washington, D.C.
1:11.7	There was like crazy amounts of activism going on oh yeah and I
1:15.6	went to the National Day of Action for the Dream Act so there were protests and
1:19.8	sitings and there were speeches from members of Congress in the church.
1:23.6	It feels like serious activism like 1960s kind of like...
