Tell me about yourself and how you got into writing and writing about film.

It's been quite a long time. I've been, you know, I turned 61 this year, and I've been writing

since, as a professional, I've been doing this since my early to mid-20s. I started out as a music critic.

I was a rock critic.

I got my professional breaks at a magazine called Musician, and then I moved from there

to the Village Voice, where I worked with the well-known and well-respected writer and

editor Robert Criscow, who really taught me a lot, gave me a sort of semi-regular

slot in their music review section of the paper. And at the time, the voice was a really

very well-known as a writer's paper. And so that became my entree to other places. People were,

you were considered pretty legit and not only legit, but pretty interesting

if you had bylines of the voice.

So I started working a couple of years later, a full-time job that I got because of my

voice connection at a magazine called Video Review.
