You're going to be. So, The Hello and welcome back to the history of ancient Greece.

0:45.0

So we are taking a break from a regularly scheduled programming for a special guest episode today.

0:51.0

This is the first time that I have ever done one of these, where I was

0:54.1

the host, but I think it turned out well. On episode 71 we discussed love, sex, and

0:59.0

prostitution and Agent Greece, and so I thought it would be really neat to bring on a friend of the show and fellow

1:04.0

podcaster herself, Avon McMaster, to also discuss love, sex, and prostitution, but from the

1:10.0

Roman perspective. That's because in addition to being co-host of the Endless Not

1:14.0

podcast, Avon is an assistant professor in ancient studies at Thornallow University

1:19.2

at Laurentian, which is in Ontario, Canada for those who didn't know.

1:23.0

and she often teaches courses on sex and the body in the ancient world.

1:32.0

So she was the perfect person to bring on to the show for this topic and unsurprisingly we had an excellent, informative, and might I say hilarious conversation.

1:48.0

All right and joining me today is Ava MacMaster, one of the co-host for the Endless Not Podcast. Thank you for joining me today.

1:50.0

1:51.0

It's a pleasure to be here.

2:05.7

So first thing we're going to talk about is Peterasty.

2:11.1

And as you guys listen to from my previous episode, you know that it was a very foundational in ancient Greece, but I'm curious to see what role, if any, that it played in Rome.. So for that we have Avon here today and she is an

2:26.6

expert in Roman sexuality so it's going to be interesting to compare and

2:30.5

contrast some of the things. So Avon, what ways are they similar and what ways are they different?

2:38.8

Well the very first thing is that Pederasty is an institution, the way you talked about it in Greece,

2:44.0

really didn't exist at Rome.
