Governor Roy Cooper is joining Tommy Ashley and myself.

First off, Governor Cooper, how are you?

Glad to be with you and Tommy.

Thank you guys for the work you do, bringing such insight to Carolina Athletics.

That's fantastic.

See, now we're going to have to retire because I've never gotten a compliment from somebody in a sitting governor's seat to say something like that.

But, Governor, we wanted to speak with you today because obviously there are some issues around college athletics that are very hot topics and one in which you dove in headlong yesterday and writing a letter to the president of the NCAA, former governor of Massachusetts and NCAA President Baker, writing a letter to advocate for Tess Walker.

And the first thing I would ask you is, how did you hear about this situation?

Well, let's first lay it out that I've never done anything like this before.

People know me as a hardworking governor, but also an avid sports fan.

And obviously, I'm a big Carolina fan and a Carolina Hurricanes fan, in fact.

And it's one of the things I like to do in the little bit of spare time that I have.

But I had some friends approach me about this case.
