I'm Sid Evans, editor-in-chief of Southern Living magazine.

In all of our families, there are recipes that become tradition.

And over the years, that tradition becomes synonymous with love and memory.

So here at Biscuits and Jam, we've gone through our favorite episodes and picked out a few

clips, some of which you haven't heard yet, where our guests share their own stories of what

family means to them.

To kick things off, here's the Empress of Soul, Gladys Knight, talking about how there was

always music in her kitchen.

Is it fair to say that you love to cook?

I love to cook. I've been cooking, let's see, since I was six years old.

Wow, you got an early start.

I did. I come from a family where all the ladies in my family used to come together and they'd just be having

so much fun in the kitchen and one of them would make this particular recipe and somebody

else will be doing something else and they'd be so good to smelling up the whole house

is great.

And so that's when I started and I was always in there and the way at six years old.

But they started, rather than chastising me, they started teaching me.

And I love that.

I was just fascinated.

And when it was done, and they called everybody in to eat, the food was amazing.

And it just kept me going.
