In May of this year, 2025, Kathy 2, who is a friend and is the executive producer of the podcast 99% Invisible, who's a brilliant storyteller and is one of the founding hosts and producer of the fantastic podcast, Nancy, posted something on Instagram that caught my attention.

0:23.1

She wrote, and I quote,

0:25.0

If you don't know, I've been obsessed with reading slash listening to women-loving women romance novels this year.

0:32.8

As of today, this was in May, everyone, I'm over 50 books for the year 2025. Do I do anything else now?

1:32.3

And obviously, I think that these two things

1:35.0

are in conversation with one another.

1:38.7

But what's special about romance novels

1:41.5

is that they are written and published faster

1:44.0

than movies are made.

1:45.8

They don't need a studio's approval.

1:48.4

Often they are self-published, so there's more room for them to speak to our current moment,

1:54.6

urgently to speak to niche audiences, for you to find the exact hockey,, teacher, student, close proximity, love that

2:05.1

you want. And right now, there are more queer romance novels being written than ever before.
