I'm an artist and a writer, and this is a space where I share words that I hope can make a little room for you to slow down and take a few deep breaths as you prepare for whatever lies ahead. Today is the day. Today is the day. The day that this episode goes live is the day that my new book,

Peace is a Practice is officially released. Peace is a practice is an invitation to breathe deep and find a new rhythm for life. I am so excited that this book is out there in the

world, not going to lie, also a little bit nervous as well. But I'm so excited for

those who are able to get this book, pick it up in some capacity, whether it's through the physical

copy, the digital copy, the audio book copy. I hope that this book speaks to you in some way

and it helps you find those rhythms of peace in your daily life. So for today's episode,

I wanted to share with you something that I shared on social media not too long ago

that was inspired from this book. So also while we're recording this episode, we're about

halfway through Black History Month. And this is a time that for

many people, it's a time to get educated, but it's also a time to reflect and to think about

how far we have come and how far we still have to go. And this is something that I, that is

definitely not at all exclusive to Black

History Month. But at the same time that my book is being released, these are themes that I talk

about in the book. I talk about the lineage in which I come from, the legacy in which I come from

of black people in America. I am a descendant of slaves in America.

And this is something that I spend a lot of time thinking about. And I even believe that it comes out a lot in my work.

And the way that I even talk about peace and the way that I even talk about freedom to breathe.

So today, I just wanted to read something that I wrote recently that I've learned from my

own ancestors, the people that have come before me.
