Well, we're hoping for nuance on a tough morning like today anyway.

Yes, we woke up to tragic news.

So before we get started, we're going to read this quote.

I'm going to try to read it without crime, but I can't make any promises from Martin Luther King.

Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness.

Only light can do that.

Hate cannot drive out hate.

Only love can do that.

Ooh.

So obviously we're getting our arms around what happened last night in Dallas.

My understanding is that five police officers were killed by snipers at a protest event.

It's just been one thing after another this week with the tragic deaths of two black men that seem wholly avoidable.

And now that has apparently prompted killing police officers to protest that.

And I think one thing.

So trying to find some nuance and something useful to hold on to here.

I think one thing that we would say is we don't need to rank these tragedies.
