Summary

The Story Collider needs your help! Our initial funding is coming to an end, and we need your help to keep going. It doesn't take a lot, $1/podcast will go a long way. As a thanks if you donate, we'll give you a special podcast with some of the storylets we tell in the live shows between the main stories. Here's a sample of those. If you'd like to contribute or for more info, head to http://www.patreon.com/thestorycollider. Thanks!

Hey everyone. Welcome to a special edition of the Story Collider podcast. We're launching a

0:13.3

fundraising drive on Patreon, and one of the rewards is a special monthly podcast of the

0:17.4

mini stories you never get to hear on the normal podcast. This is going to be a

0:21.5

sample of those. But first, briefly, what's going on? The super short version is that we're

0:27.6

running out of money. We had a startup donation for the first few years, which is great, but that is

0:32.2

coming to an end. So we're coming to you for support and asking you to head to storycollider.org

0:37.8

slash donate and become a donor.

0:40.4

Now, we know not everyone can afford it and we're committed to keeping the stories free and

0:44.0

available to anyone.

0:45.3

And so here's how this is going to work.

0:47.5

We found the system, Patreon, that lets you make monthly contributions at any level you

0:51.2

like, a dollar a month, $5 a month, or more if you can.

0:55.2

$5 a month is about a dollar per podcast. So if you like the podcast, if you think the

1:00.2

stories are great, if you believe in the idea of telling true stories about science and

1:04.8

getting to the human side of science, and you think it's worth that, please sign up and

1:10.5

help us keep it available

1:11.6

for everyone. If you do that, two cool things happen. One, a donor gave us a month to sign

1:18.6

up as many people as we can. And for each person that does that, they'll chip in an additional

1:22.6

$10 for the first month, up to a thousand people. So that's maybe an additional $10,000 we can get.

1:28.8

Second, at every show that we do, every live show, there are hosts.

1:33.1

Me and Aaron Barker in New York, Brian Wecht in London, and Ari Daniel in Boston.

1:37.5

And we tell little storylets in between each of the main stories.
