debate, I gave each campaign a list of topics that will review during the debate. Education,

climate change, foreign policy, the role of senators and economic policy. The candidates have not seen

specific questions and have not made any demands about roles for this debate. The transparency

and cooperation of these campaigns, along with the podcast format, leaves us uninhibited from the

usual obstacles to having a substantive exchange of ideas. Our only format restrictions are that

will have two opening statements, one hour of debate and two closing statements. And with that

introduction, I'll turn it over to you, Robin, for our first opening statement.
