Today I'm joined by Robin LeVern Wilson of the Green Party and Alex Merced of the Libertarian Party.

Robin and Alex are candidates for the United States Senate in the state of New York.

They were excluded from the debate between Republican Wendy Long and Democratic incumbent Chuck Schumer,

and I'm excited that they're sharing their views with New York voters and also with all of our

listeners who are interested in news and parties beyond the Democrats and Republicans.

As Pantene's Suit Politics listeners know, I'm usually joined by Sarah from the left and we discuss

issues without shouting or insults and with plenty of nuance. Sarah is a candidate for City

Commission in her hometown of Paduca-Kentucky, so today she's out knocking on doors herself.

She'll be back with me for special episodes airing daily from Tuesday to Tuesday during this

last week before the election and also the week of our Pantene Suit Politics birthday, so we hope

you'll join us for those episodes. Alex and Robin, thanks again for being here. So prior to today's

debate, I gave each campaign a list of topics that will review during the debate. Education,

climate change, foreign policy, the role of senators and economic policy. The candidates have not seen

specific questions and have not made any demands about roles for this debate. The transparency

and cooperation of these campaigns, along with the podcast format, leaves us uninhibited from the

usual obstacles to having a substantive exchange of ideas. Our only format restrictions are that

will have two opening statements, one hour of debate and two closing statements. And with that

introduction, I'll turn it over to you, Robin, for our first opening statement.
