researchers found it's affecting how we both feel about

and renovate our own homes.

And Americans are renovating a lot these days.

Researchers at Harvard expect Americans to spend half a trillion dollars on home renovation

projects this year alone. Later in the show, Interior Designer and DIY

influencer Kara Newhart shares how we can feel inspired by what we see instead of

overwhelmed or defeated.

But first, what does the research actually show about the impact of home design shows?

Researcher Anetta Grant is telling us all about it.

She's an assistant professor of markets innovation and design at Bucknell University and

her recent report in the Journal of Consumer Research explored how various forms of media

including the popular channel HG TV lifestyle, and trade shows influence homeowners today.
