Summary

Joy Reid leads this episode of The ReidOut with a lot of breaking news. NBC News has confirmed that special counsel Jack Smith has informed Donald Trump that he is a target of the special counsel’s investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Being named a target almost certainly means that Trump will face arrest and his third indictment this year. Meanwhile, on Tuesday in Michigan, the 16 fake electors Trump allegedly tried to use to claim he had actually won that state were indicted for their participation. This comes as lawyers for the former president and the special counsel were battling it out in a Florida courtroom, in front of Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon, over whether Trump could postpone the trial in the classified documents case until after the 2024 election. All this and more in this edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC.

But this indictment would be far different.

Never in the 247-year history of this country have we faced what Trump attempted to orchestrate

a former president doing everything possible to overturn a free and fair election to try

to stay in power, including unleashing a violent mob of his supporters on the U.S. Capitol,

1:06.2

supporters who were even calling for the hanging of his own vice president.

1:11.6

Meanwhile just today in Michigan, the 16 fake electors Trump tried to use to claim he

had actually won that state were all indicted for their participation.

1:23.6

This comes as lawyers for the former president and the special counsel were battling it out

1:27.6

today in a Florida courtroom in front of Trump appointed Judge Aileen Cannon over whether

1:33.1

Trump could postpone the trial in the classified documents case until after the 2024 election.

1:39.8

But unlike that case, a potential jury trial in this January 6th investigation would take

1:45.6

place here in Washington, D.C. and would probably not be argued in front of a judge who has

1:50.8

shown more favor to the man who appointed her than to the law she swore to uphold.
