My name is George Jesuit, I will be your host for today's show and this is George Jesuit

and Friends on songwriting.

It heads up as ever, there might just be some swearing, you know, just, there you go, I've

let you know, that might happen.

So today's episode puts the focus on songwriting, how people do it, where ideas come from, what

works, what doesn't, and we got told the stories behind some great songs like Tom Jones

is not unusual, which is amazing.

To start us off, one of the UK's most prolific songwriters, if not, be most prolific

songwriter and friend of mine, it is Ed Sheeran.

I got told really early on that to become a good songwriter, you had to treat it like

an instrument and write a song a day.

So I don't really do it as much anymore because you know, I end up doing a lot of promo,

but if I go into write a song, I'll make sure I do like five in a day, even if they're

speaking shit, you'd just like write something to get it out there.

The day that I wrote Shape of View, that was one of five and the other four were like,

so, so, you know.

And will they have been like four attempts on the same theme?

Don't like, will you go in and buy five Shape of Views?

No, I'd go in, I think the first song we did, we wanted to do like a country song,

the second song Shape of View was originally a little mix cut, so we were like, it's

right, it's on for little mix.
